Experience
I have tutored K-12 curriculum for the majority of my college career. I also help students prepare college and professional school applications including personal statement editing. For the sciences, I have found that I most effectively help students when I quiz them to pinpoint gaps in their knowledge and then find ways to help them condense material in a fashion that aids recall on exams. For applications and other writing assignments, I emphasize that students make it a goal to make arguments as clear and concise as possible for graders. Thus, I help them locate points in the paper that could be improved on and work with students to research how to strengthen the argument. In high school I took 11 AP classes in a variety of subjects and am confident I have found ways in which to best outline the relevant exam material. Further, I competed in various science fairs and could offer my insight on how to create a testable hypothesis and make a year-long project out of it that looks great on college applications. Research shows that the best way to learn is by teaching others. I enjoy tutoring because not only am I able to help young scholars but it has also helped me in my academic career.
