Experience
I'm a graduate of Brigham Young University where I earned my degree in civil engineering. Tutoring students in the areas of Spanish and math are my specialties. In my own experience, I learned to speak Spanish in Mexico, where I lived for a few years in my youth. I also learned the language in the traditional classroom. I additionally studied abroad in Zacatecas during my final semester at BYU. As far as my tutoring style is concerned, I try to utilize the same materials in my tutoring sessions that my students would have access to on their own to maintain consistency. When working with students on the subject of math, I take a more conceptual approach. I have them work out example math problems so I can pinpoint the areas that are causing confusion. When helping students with Spanish, I immerse my students in the language, communicating with them in Spanish frequently. My philosophy is that the best way to learn and understand a language is to dive right in and speak it. Drawing from my own personal background, I discovered that living in Mexico where I spoke Spanish all the time really helped me learn the language faster. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy playing sports like ultimate Frisbee and basketball and spending time with my family.
